| studio d’une is dedicated to the relationships in Nature, including humanity's relationship with the Earth. Living relationships, expressed through nature art, bring into focus the connection of one life to another, and the intricate ways in which we impact our planet and are impacted by it. Through my watercolor paintings and pen & ink drawings of wildlife and special areas of pristine beauty, I seek to create images that inspire and reveal the bond we have with our natural world. As we have been shown recently by the visible effects of global warming, we must consider our impact on all life forms and our planet. We simply cannot continue to believe we are separate and invincible, living out of sync with Nature. Yet, we are waking up. We are beginning to see how our children, our health, and our own backyards are being affected by our choices and daily routines. We are realizing that devastation can occur worldwide and challenge the very ability to sustain our way of life. Whether it is industrial mercury, aluminum, sulfur, and nitrogen polluting our forests, fish, and waters from acid deposition; pesticides contaminating our soil, food supplies and groundwater; or unsustainable clearcutting of our tropical and boreal forests, contributing to climate change and the depletion of our worldwide oxygen supply; we are now facing a point in our evolution where industry and technology are impacting our world at accelerating rates. Wildlife and our natural systems are indicators of the health of our environment and the future of humanity. How we now balance the benefits of technology with viable ecosystems is our next greatest challenge. Our actions must reflect sensitivity to their consequences. We must remember that, in every moment, we do have a choice. Through studio d’une, I create works of art that communicate the connection we have with all of life and every aspect of our natural world. My work is not just about painting endangered species or captivating scenes of Nature, but about communicating a vision that we truly do live in unison with everything around us. We have a shared destiny. As we begin to see the ways in which we impact Earth’s living systems, we can mend imbalances by thinking broader and deeper about life, by paying attention to life’s interconnections. Hence the name of my studio: studio d'une, meaning 'studio of one'. My images tell the story of this shared relationship with Nature in order to bring to the forefront of our consciousness that what we do to our natural world, we do to ourselves. As science has proven, the distance between us is really non-existent, when we consider that every seven years, each atom in our bodies is replaced with another atom from Nature. I encourage all of us to explore these remarkable connections. A renewed perception will help balance humanity's relationship with the Earth. My message is one of healing, harmony, and wholeness. I welcome you to my world of nature art. I hope you find your time here enjoyable and uplifting. ~ Rebecca Richman |
